Cobalt blue glass 'Kartio' 1610 pitcher by Kaj Franck for Iittala

CHF 90.00

A beautiful yet practical cobalt blue glass 'Kartio' pitcher, model number 1610, designed by Kaj Franck (1911-1989) for Iittala in 1958.

Franck was a leading figure in the Finnish design industry, and worked with both ceramics and glass. He is known as the 'conscience of Finnish design', and was guided by a desire to seek the essential, endlessly studying basic forms and proportions to strip back household objects to their essential components. Franck's 'Kartio' pitcher is one such example of this, being designed without a handle so to save space on the table and when stored, and the end result being a beautifully sleek and minimalist silhouette.

This piece is a true Scandinavian design classic, so much so that it is still sold today by Iittala, although no longer in this particularly striking shade of cobalt blue. It would be perfect for serving water, wine, or even to be used as a vase.

This piece bears its original rectangular 'i' sticker, with the words 'Made in Finland', meaning it dates to 1974-1991, when this particular label was in use.

It is in excellent vintage condition, and has a capacity of 950 ml.
