'Spijkervaas' by Andries D. Copier for Leerdam Glassfabriek
This beautiful handblown 'Spijkervaas' was designed in 1936 by Andries D. Copier (1901-1991) for Dutch glass manufacturer Leerdam Glassfabriek. Copier is considered the most important Dutch glass designer of the 20th Century, due to his talent in experimenting with new methods of glassmaking.
This is the second 'Spijkervaas' that I have been lucky enough to acquire - the first remains in my private collection as I could not bear to part with it! I love how simple and timeless this piece appears, whilst at the same time making a statement with its beautiful form and intricate controlled bubbles.
This particular piece was most likely made in the 1940s or 1950s, and is in very good vintage condition for its age. There is a small amount of scuffing on one side of the vase, which is only evident upon close examination. This piece measures 7 cm x 7 cm.
