Set no. 2 Royal Copenhagen 'Blåkant', comprising a set of three tea cups and saucers

CHF 80.00

The 'Blåkant' pattern was created by one of my all time favourite designers, acclaimed Danish architect and designer Grethe Meyer (1918-2008).

Meyer was a true trailblazer for women in the male-dominated Danish architecture and design industry, and has a fascinating biography. Meyer opened her own firm in 1960, and is known for her determination to create beautiful, as well as highly usuable and practical products, which was informed by her own research of how people lived and used everyday pieces.

Meyer created the 'Blåkant' faience dinner service for Aluminia (later Royal Copenhagen) in 1965, and the line received the inagural Danish Industrial Design Prize that same year, making it one of Meyer's most notable designs. The name 'Blåkant', or 'Blue Line', describes the fine blue line that runs along the edges of the light grey faience.

The set dates to 1980-1984, as indicated by the maker's mark, and is in very good vintage condition. There are no structural flaws, only some crazing that is more evident on certain pieces, particularly when wet, and one saucer has some slight discolouration in two places, measuring less than 0.5 cm each. The cups are 10 cm in diameter, and the saucers 15.5 cm.

If you would like to purchase another 'Blåkant' set along with this one, please contact me so I can offer you a concession on the total price.
