Set of two white and beige onyx handcarved horse head bookends
These hand-carved horse head bookends made from white and beige Mexican onyx most likely date to the 1970s, and yet feel very timeless and current.
I love how the graining in the onyx is mirrored across the two pieces, a sure sign of quality craftpersonship. These pieces have a green velvet protective layer on their bases, which was probably added by their previous owner. I can imagine this set styled on an shelves abundant with books and other unique objects and personal photos.
The original label indicates that they are made from Mexican onyx. This set is in good vintage condition; each horse has one small chip on the ear, and one horse has a chip on the mane. There are also a couple of small chips on the backsides and bases, although these are not immediately noticeable due to the varying colour of the stone. Each bookend stands 19cm tall, and is 9.5 cm long and 6.5cm wide
