Villeroy & Boch 'Glasgow' three-piece set comprising two dessert plates and a small milk pitcher

CHF 50.00

A three-piece set in Villeroy & Boch's 'Glasgow' series number 8202, comprising two dessert plates and a small milk pitcher.

These charming pieces bear a hand-painted vichy check pattern in red/pink and blue, against a cream background, and have a certain je ne sais quoi that will bring your kitchen or dining space to life. They were manufactured in the Saarland, which lovers of history will know was handed back and forth between France and Germany during the first half of the 20th Century.

This history is reflected in the backstamps. The pitcher and one plate were manufactured in France Saar, between 1945 and 1955, and the second plate, which is newer and thus has more saturated colours, was manufactured after 1956, when the Saar reunified with what was then West Germany.

These pieces are in decent vintage condition and have lovely patina and crazing. The plates have numerous small chips on the rims, and the pitcher has two hairline fractures that are predominantly visible from the inside, which make it more suited for decoration rather than everyday use, as it is probably not watertight. The plates measure 19 cm in diameter, and the pitcher stands 11.5 cm tall.
