Set of six highball 'Niva' glasses by Tapio Wirkkala for Iittala
A fabulous set of six 'Niva' highball glasses designed by Tapio Wirkkala for the Finnish glasswaremaker, Iittala. The 'Niva' series was in production between 1972 and 1992, meaning these glasses date to some time during this period.
The word 'Niva' means 'strong flow of water' in Finnish, and Wirkkala's designs are known to be strongly influenced by the nature he himself was surrounded by. The beautiful texture and shape of these glasses are reminiscent of water rapids, and they have a lovely weight to them, indicating their quality.
The 'Niva' series was reintroduced by Iittala in 2022 after a thirty year hiatus, and proved hugely popular, showing yet again how timeless vintage design is.
This set is in excellent vintage condition. The glasses measure .14 cm tall x 6.5 cm wide, and have a capacity of approximately 370 ml. Some still have the original Iittala label intact.
I have an additional five glasses available, making a total of 11 - please contact me if you would like to purchase more than just the six included in this listing.
