Set no. 1 Arabia Finland 'Uhtua', comprising eight cups and saucers
The 'Uhtua' pattern was created for Arabia Finland by Finnish ceramic designers and Inkeri Leivo (1944-2010) and Ulla Procopé (1921-1968), who happens to be one of my all time favourite designers. Both Leivo and Procopé led fascinating careers, and were leading women in the Finnish design industry.
This set comprises eight coffee cups and saucers. I adore the use of dusky blue and warm taupe against the light grey/off white background of this stoneware series. The blue in this series is inspired by the traditional painted wooden houses from the village of Uhtua in Finland. This high quality and beautiful set is perfect for your 'fika' (Finnish for coffee break) alongside a crumbly pastry.
The 'Uhtua' series was produced between 1980 and 1990, and this particular set was manufactured between 1982 and 1990.
This set is in excellent vintage condition. The cups measure 8 cm tall and 7 cm in diameter and the saucers 12 cm in diameter.
